I spent a long time avoiding facial oils. Having more combination to oily skin, I was always under that false impression that more oil equals more break outs. Contrary to popular belief, oil does attract oil. Oil based products can actually help attract oil, dissolve excess sebum, and take off make up, without stripping the skin of it’s own oils.

My first foray into face oils was the ever popular Sunday Riley Luna oil. If you love the power of retinol (vitamin A1), you will love this one. I only use 2 times a week, as retinols can be too much for my skin. But, this one is great and really does smooth and refine the skin. Once it came out, I next tried their U.F.O oil. This is amazing! The scent isn’t the best, but the results are. I vacillate between slathering all over my face, to using as a spot treatment. I will say, using sparingly is generally best, unless you are really oily or have some major breakouts.

Next, I tried the Clarins Lotus oil. This is a great every day oil, especially if you have normal to oil skin. You can use it as a serum product before or after moisturizer. OR, just use alone as a lightweight moisturizer. I actually gifted this oil to my mother (54) and she just uses as an evening moisturizer. The lemon-rosemary scent is a plus!

My most recent discovery/fave, is the La Mer Renewal Oil! I went a long time without trying La Mer. With the high price, I always thought it was just raved about cuz it was expensive. But, this oil is truly magic! It’s lightweight, has a marine like scent, and really does soften and add radiance to your skin. I use either alone, or I mix it with a moisturizer for nighttime (currently Arcona’s Overnight Repair Complex or Kate Somerville Goat Milk Moisturizer).
